Modular Helmets
Modular helmets are a mix between a full face helmet and a open face helmet. This is because the chin bar can open up at the front of the helmet. It is designed with an upright riding position in mind, the chin bar sits lower on the face, and the eye openings are more straightforward. Most modern modular helmets include a shield for eye protection as well as an internal sun visor to protect from the sunlight.
These helmets weigh more than open face helmets or half helmets, however they provide more protection in comparison due to the added chin protection. Some modular helmets are dual certified as full face and open face helmets. The chin bar of those helmets offer real protection and they can be used in the "open" position while riding.
modular helmets have become increasingly popular with motor officers. They allow them to be seen and interact easier with the public, perform their on duty functions, have conversations, eat, drink, and are compatible with eyeglasses.
